IT RUNS GOOD BUT WHEN YOU FIRST GIVE IT SOME THROTTLE IT FEELS AND SOUNDS LIKE THE BELT OR SOMETHING IS SLIPPING. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES CATCH IT MAKES ...

If you look at the module with the terminals pointing down, the two on the left go to the pickup coil (black and blue on my '86).

I just had the same problem on my Twin Peaks (aka Prairie 700) and it turned out to be the fan switch sensor that is screwed into the side of the radiator. Before you do anything else, you should run 12V directly to the fan to make sure its working properly. If the radiator is full of coolant, the problem is most likely the thermostat. The fan switch is in the radiator, so it does not get hot enough to kick on when the thermostat is stuck shut.
